Humanitarian Aid

Humanitarian aid is part of Disaster Management. The Humanitarian Aid  programme entails the temporary support necessary for direct emergency aid and support of refugees in situations of war, conflict and natural disasters and activities that reduce vulnerability to disasters. The activities and funds the ICCO Alliance deploys for acute emergency aid are not part of the subsidy application.

Disaster Management comprises of Rehabiliation: assist people to arrive at a better position than was the case before the disaster took place.

Last but not least there is Risk Management - or (Disaster) Risk Reduction ((D)RR) - where vulnerability of people to threats in their environment are the key problem.  We want to increase the resilience of people against those threats, by analysing, in a very participatory manner, these threats, and working on the most important threats and vulnerabilities together.

So in brief Disaster Managemen is the container concept in which Humanitarian aid (emergency aid), rehabilitation and Risk Management or Risk Reduction can be found.
